A non-ferrous metal does not contain iron. These types of metal are usually more expensive due to the desirable properties that each of them has. Each non-ferrous metal is used to serve a different purpose. Below I have listed some of these metals and the things they are used for.
- Copper – High electrical conductivity and flexible which is great for electrical cable in houses, vehicles and other electronic devices.
- Aluminium – Lightweight and strong which is great for vehicle parts and some more expensive bicycles
- Lead – Used in acid batteries due to its anti-corrosive properties and its ability to store electricity.
With a magnet, you can test if a metal is non-ferrous. A magnet will not stick to a non-ferrous metal due to the fact that there is no iron in the material.
